Backdoor
Terminology | Dictionary | Explanation
A backdoor is a hidden piece of software that allows it's creator to access to the computer. It bypasses normal authentication to the computer system. Using the backdoor, the hacker can get remote access to the computer. The backdoor may take the form of an installed, legimate program. A backdoor is hard to detect for system operators, and that is what makes backdoors so powerful. As rootkits and remote administrator tools may be detected and deleted, the hacker is still able to get into the system using the backdoor.
