  Dubbed
Terminology | Dictionary | Explanation

If a film is dubbed, it is a special version where the actors' voices are in another language. Dubbed versions of English-language films are for people who don't understand English very well. Both movies and tv series can be dubbed.

Subbing can be used instead of dubbing, as different countries have different traditions regarding the choice between dubbing and subtitling. In most English-speaking countries, dubbing is comparatively rare. In the Russian, German, Spanish and Italian-speaking markets, virtually all foreign films and television shows are dubbed. In the Netherlands, Nordic countries and in some Slavic countries (such as Slovenia, Estonia and Serbia), films and television programmes are shown in the original language (usually English) with subtitles, and only cartoons and children movies and programs are dubbed. Cinemas usually both show a dubbed version and one with subtitles of this kind of movies, with the subtitled version later in the evening.
