  Eggdrop bot & Site announcements

Eggdrop is a very popular IRC bot, and it's used widely in the scene. An IRC bot is an independent program that connects to Internet Relay Chat as a client, and so appears to other IRC users as another user. It differs from a regular client in that instead of providing interactive access to IRC for a human user, it performs automated functions. Eggdrop bots can execute scripts such as:

» Site annoucements
Every site has an eggdrop which automatically announces information in the channel. It can also announce information on request. When a race is started, the bot will announce this in the channel. An example of this is:
[NEW in TV-x264] Prison.Break.S03E05.720p.HDTV.x264-CTU pre'd 32s ago [Started by slapshot /iND.].
As you can see it also displays the pretime (32s ago), and who started the race. It is common that the bot also announces which users join the race. When the race is done, the bot announces this too:
[COMPLETED in TV-x264] Prison.Break.S03E05.720p.HDTV.x264-CTU [724.24mB/19F/39s/39818kB/s]
[USER-TOP] 1. slapshot/iND [513.7M/11F/69%/27990KB/s]
[USER-TOP] 2. ssslut/FoD [210.5M/5F/31%/11828KB/s]

As mentioned above, eggdrop bots can also display information on request. If a racer wants to know the speed of his transfer, he can request this information by performing a command in the channel. Usually, this is !speed <user>. The eggdrop might return the following information:
[SPEED] ssslut/FoD is uploading ctu-x264-prison.break.305.r09 at 10135 KB/s (44.0MB done)
Other information which can be announced on request can be the disk usage (free space left), top uploaders/top groups, and the list of affils.
