Liveset
Terminology | Dictionary | Explanation
A liveset is a record of a DJ mixing live. Livesets are released in the scene, by specialized liveset recording groups. An example of a liveset release is Rocco_-_Live_at_Delta_Musik_Park_Essen_(SSL)-08-25-CABLE-2007-UME. The releasename shows where the DJ was playing (in this case Delta Musik Park Essen) and when (08-25-2007), and from which radio channel or stream it was recorded (in this case SSL, SunShine Live). Livesets can be recorded from online streams and analoge radio, although the better one are recorded from radio channels digitally (DAB, Digital Audio Broadcasting), CABLE, SAT (Satellite) or LINE. The types of liveset sources are listed below, from worst to best source.
Stream / Analoge Rip
Stream and analoge captures are at the bottom of the quality ladder. Stream rips are often not so good since the quality depends on the connection. It's quite common that they contain pauses, what occurs when there's no connection between the server and client (which is recording) for a couple of seconds.
DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting)
If a liveset is captured from digital radio channels, it's labelled as DAB.
CABLE
If a liveset is captured via the TV coax cable, it's labelled as CABLE.
SAT (Satellite)
If a liveset is captured from satellite, it's labelled as SAT.
LINE
LINE recordings are the best of all. They are recorded directly from the DJ's equipment. Since there's no intermediary and the signal is digital with a high bitrate, it's obvious that LINE recordings are the best.
