Pre channel & prebot
Synonyms: pre announce channels, announce bots, pre database
Terminology | Dictionary | Explanation
A pre channel is an IRC channel in which a prebot (an Eggdrop bot) announces new warez releases in real time.
Pre channels are generally provided as a convenience to members of the scene, often in conjunction with a topsite. Pre channels are private channels. The prebot also announces nukes & unnukes. Apart from the releasetitles, other information can also be announced, such as sections (MP3, DVDr, XViD), number of files, and the size of the release. The advantage for the users in a pre channel is that they are notified about new warez releases as they are released. This is of particular benefit to couriers, since they are notified when to start trading.

Except for the announce-function, prebots have other interesting features. Users can perform a !pre <release> command to find out more information about a certain release. The prebot will return the pretime (date/time of the pre), the status (nuked or unnuked) and optionally any of the following information:
- The section (for example MP3, DVDR, XViD)
- File size (for example 4431MB)
- Number of files (for example 94 files)
- Genre (in case of mp3, for example Metal)
- NFO file
Some prebots contain NFO files of releases. With the !nfo <release> command, the users are able to download the NFO.
The !pre function can also be used to find out whether or not something has been released yet, or whether or not a release really exists. Using wildcard characters, !pre *microsoft*windows* will display the latest release of Microsoft Windows.
A list of commands for prebots
!pre <release/search string>
Used to check the pretime and other information of a release, or to find releases
!dupe <search string>
The dupe command will send a private message to the performer of the command, containing the last x (usually 10-20) releases which contain the search string. It will display the same information as the pre command shows.
!nfo <release>
Used to download NFO's from a prebot
!group <releasegroup>
Used to check the statistics of a releasegoup. The prebot usually returns the following information: number of releases, nuke percentage (percentage of releases which are nuked),
and the group's first and last release. Some prebots also show the latest nuke/unnuke, the amount of internals, propers, repacks, and fixes, and the sectionstats.
Pre spam
When a release is pre'd, it will be seen by millions of people in pre-announce channels and sites. Some people (pre-spammers) abuse the fact that so many people read this and they fake releases with a message as the releasename. That way the 'release' name will be seen by all these people, this is also their intention. For example, when Germany lost against Italy in the semi finals of the FIFA World Cup 2006, there were pre spam messages like: Schade.Deutschland.Alles.Ist.Vobei-2006-uSuCK. Pre-spam is not tolerated and pre-spammers will be punished or scenebanned.

Addpre & Depre
You can imagine that pre spam really soils the pre databases. Therefore prebot owners and nukers are able to manually add and delete titles from the pre database. Sometimes sites can echo pre's incorrectly to the pre database (for example Call_Of_Duty_4-Razor1911 whichs gets echo'd as Call_Of_Duty_4-Razor19). Bad echos will also be delpred. It's also possible that pre's are not being echo'd to the pre database. This sometimes happens because of technical flaws. Then nukers and prebot owners will be able to manually add these pre's to the database.
Command usage:
!addpre *release* *section* *files* *total size in MB*
Example: !addpre Call_Of_Duty_4-Razor1911 GAMES 68 6963.2
!delpre *release* *reason*
Example: !delpre
Call_Of_Duty_4-Razor19 bad.echo
