Proxy
Terminology | Dictionary | Explanation
A proxy is a gateway through which users can connect to the Internet. The advantage of a proxy is that servers and other www-users won't be able to see the user's real ip. Good releasegroups use proxies to connect to their sites. That way, if a releasegroup uploads a release, the upload it cannot be traced back to the uploader's real IP-address. Although proxies improve the security of releasegroups a lot, not a lot of them use proxies. This is because it's very hard to find stable, anonymous, but especially fast proxies.
