Scanstro
Terminology | Dictionary | Explanation
A scanstro is a computer that has been compromised and is used to scan for other vulnerable systems, mainly to the FXP Boards or Pubbing Community. Scanstro's are in fact pubstro's, which are too slow to use for filesharing.
A scanner first scans the net for vulnerable IP's. Then the hacker breaks in to the vulnerable computer, and installs his rootkit. When the compromised system has a fast connection, it will be used as pubstro. But when it's too slow to use for file sharing, it will be used as a scanstro. The hacker will give the login information back to the scanner so he can access the system. He will then upload software tools, so he'll be able to scan remotely. Good scanners only scan remotely, because ISPs will be able to see it when people are scanning. By scanning remotely (which is in fact scanning on a remote system), the scanner does no harm on his own pc, and he won't get into troubles with his ISP.
