Prof. Johan Pouwelse To Take On RIAA Expert
|
Its going to be interesting when Dr Doug Jacobson, a self-acclaimed expert in software used to monitor or block p2p file sharing applications, meets Dr. Johan Pouwelse, a Dutch universally acknowledged expert in next-generation p2p technology.
Jacobson, based in the US, was hired by Warner Music, EMI, Vivendi Universal and Sony BMGs RIAA to ferret around in a computer hard drive owned by Marie Lindor to show she is all the RIAA claims she is.
Aged 57, she is a criminal and a thief, someone who illegally distributed copyrighted music "product" online, according to the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America).
Johan Pouwelse, based at the Delft University in Holland and a visiting scientist at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), has now been hired by Mrs Lindors lawyer, Ray Beckerman, to demonstrate conclusively why "evidence" derived by Jacobson during his investigation, is not worth a light. Beckerman hopes Pouwelse is able to prove that MediaSentry, a company who collects userdata from the "p2p-criminals", has obtained evidence in an illegal way.
In a case in 2005 between UPC and Brein, Pouwelse said MediaSentrys procedures were "simplistic" and "not correct". Pouwelse is the leader of the Parallel and Distributed Systems Group, owned by TU Delft. Last year they received the Vosko Trophy 2006 for the development of the social Bittorrent-client Tribler. |
