The police of Brussels, Belgium closed an illegal server yesterday. The server was located in the Netherlands and contained 4,5 terabyte of pirated material. The site mainly hosted games and music. No-one has been arrested yet since the site fooled the cops.
The Belgium anti-piracy organization BAF started the preparations for the raid a couple of months ago. The actual raid was conducted by the Dutch police. The servers are now being examined by the Belgian Federal Computer Crime Unit (FCCU). In order to don`t waste any possible evidence, the police shut down the internet connection, but didn`t shut down the computer. That way it will be easier for the FCCU to examine the server.
Simultaneously with the raid, the Belgian police was fully ready to conduct a house-search at the Vlekho Highschool in Brussels and the Catholic University in Leuven. Preliminary investigation learned the police that the site users connected to the topsite from those places. Immediately after the raid in the Netherlands, it became clear that the site used the schools to trick the police.
